In this technique we first create a low detail head by nurbs patch modeling then convert it to apolygon object, then we add detail to it. The reason is that we have more control on the basic shape in Nurbs modeling and then we apply powerful tools in polygon modeling to add details...

At this Maya tutorial of we will learn how modeling chess pawn for knight applies polygon. For this tutorial we will apply extrude, add edges by using “cut faces tool” or “split polygon tool” or if you applies Maya 7 or letter, you can apply “insert edge loop tool”.

This image was created for a personal project to brush up on my high-end skills, having only been working on lower poly game art for the past few years. The mesh is approximately 1.5 million polygons and Brazil r/s was used to render out the model.

For the modeling process of this scene I used 3ds Max, I used polygonal modeling and some nurbs curves for basic curvy objects for interior mainly which were converted later into polygons.

The Bridge tool is a straight forward to use tool that does what the name suggests, it bridges between points, edges and polygons to build up new polygons. It can be used to create holes as well. Tutorial recorded in Release 9 but things are just the same in Release 10.

The melt tool allows you melt selected polygons into one n-gon. This then allows the matrix extrude tool to work on multiple ploygon selections. The tutorial also uses Sub Surface Scattering and Glows. The Advanced Render module is required for this part.
